On October 16th, 2010, a Melson family reunion was organized outside of Sacramento, California, and Cody and I drove up with Dad.
To be honest, before the reunion I never knew Grandma’s maiden name was Melson. I had always heard her called “Ruby Jewell”. I thought Jewell was an unusual last name, but that’s the only thing I ever heard. So it was a surprise to find out her last name was originally Melson, but not only that, her brother Ray, or Uncle Ray as everyone called him, was still around. I hadn’t seen him in years, and it was really great to catch him again. We used to stay at his place in Northern California every summer when our Grandma would drive us up to her place in Oregon.
It was kind of weird to be around a bunch of people that I’m related to, but besides Ray and maybe one of his sons, I wouldn’t recognize if I was walking by them on the street. So it was really nice to meet a bunch of family.
After the reunion, I think it was Hope that collected a bunch of the pictures taken and burned them on CD for anyone that wanted them. These are all those pictures.
